New publication on aspen suckering

Brad Pinno

Congratulations Steph on your first publication! Great work published in New Forests (https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs11056-018-09698-2) looking at suckering of aspen seedlings on an oil sands mine reclamation site north of Fort McMurray. This research shows that 6-year old aspen seedlings are capable of suckering in response to disturbance, a good indication of ecosystem resiliency. The pictures show the root system of an aspen seedling with locations of new root suckers along with a comparison of aspen of seedling and sucker origin showing the differences in stem and leaf morphology.
