Members of our group can expect:
Field Work:
Up to several weeks in the field during summers, depending on your program & research projects. This includes helping other lab members with their projects, as well as collecting data for their own.
Lab Events & Meetings:
During the fall and winter semesters, we meet once per week as a group. Lab meeting topics range from practice sessions for upcoming conferences, professional development, or even tours to local forestry consulting firms. In our lab meetings, we have hosted sessions to discuss resume/CV development, scientific publishing processes, graphic design tools, and more.
We’re not all business all the time in our group – we prioritize fun as well! We host a Christmas parties every December, and throughout the year, we try to regularly schedule team building activities (for example, golfing!) and group lunches. During during the spring, summer, and fall, we try to get out in the field as a group for day-tours – a chance for us to experience the forest together and learn about the different research sites our lab is involved in.
Publications & Conferences
All my students are expected to publish their research, and present their findings at different conferences. Some examples of conferences students have presented at in the past include: Society of American Foresters National Convention (SAF), North American Forest Ecology Workshop (NAFEW), and the Canadian Institute of Forestry National Conference (CIF).
